• The NYS Jails Justice Network was founded in 2015, primarily by people directly impacted by the jails system, to give each other support and information and strengthen our ability to confront the injustices of local jails and the law enforcement, prosecution, and courts systems that feed into them.
• In 2018, the NYS Jails Justice Network moved from information-sharing
to collective action.
• In 2021, the NYS Jails Justice Network’s hired its first Statewide Organizer, developed working committees, and began engaging actively in supporting each other’s activities and participating in statewide movements and coalitions.
• In 2022, we launched our website, increased our support for local actions, and brought our message of the fight for jails justice to a wider audience.
